Review vehicle: Volkswagen Scirocco GT 2.0 TSI 200PS

Brilliant re-interpretation of VW's coupe version of the Golf the Scirocco a two-door coupe with front-wheel drive. Last seen in 1993, this is the third-generation Scirocco. The first came to the UK in 1974. Initially launched with this turbocharged 2.0-litre 200PS powerhouse engine. A lower powered 1.4 TSI and diesel-engined Scirocco are to follow.

What's hot

• The acceleration is phenomenal reach for the neck brace...
• Great volumes of overtaking power from turbo engine
• But great brakes dissipate the speed swiftly and securely
• Striking concept car looks transferred to the production version
• Ultra wide rear gives Scirocco purposeful stance...
• ...the rear axle comes from the Passat, the front from the Golf
• Beautifully linear steering adds to driving delight
• It's a Volkswagen, so it might be a coupe...
• ...but it's usefully practical, like the split-fold rear seats
• Or even the rear seating for two
• And the boot is usable, as well

What's not

• The interior is gloomy, so you'll need 630 for the panoramic roof
• And also add 325 for the useful rear parking sensors
• Take care not to damage those fabulous 18 inch alloys when parking
• Scirocco is sensitive to colour; can look lumpy in the wrong shade
